LexicoreLegal

Lexicore Legal's associates were spending hours on the first pass of every commercial contract, manually checking each one against firm playbooks and precedent language. Aivora AI built a retrieval-augmented contract review copilot that flags risky or non-standard clauses against Lexicore's own playbooks and suggests redlines, with every suggestion reviewed by an associate before it reaches a client. First-pass review time dropped substantially, freeing associates for higher-value negotiation work.

The challenge

Wherethingsstood

Lexicore Legal is a 40-person corporate law firm handling commercial contracts, vendor agreements, and M&A due diligence for mid-market clients. Associates performed first-pass review on every incoming contract manually, checking indemnification, liability caps, termination, and IP assignment clauses against the firm's internal playbooks, a process that could take two to four hours per standard commercial agreement.

The playbooks themselves lived across a mix of internal wikis and senior partners' institutional memory, so junior associates often flagged issues inconsistently depending on who they'd learned from. Partners were also concerned about associate time being consumed by repetitive first-pass work rather than substantive negotiation strategy.

Lexicore needed a way to speed up first-pass review and make playbook knowledge consistently available to every associate, while making absolutely certain no AI-drafted suggestion ever reached a client without a licensed attorney's review and sign-off.

Our approach

Whatwebuilt

Aivora AI worked with three senior partners over six weeks to formalize Lexicore's playbook logic (acceptable clause ranges, red-flag language, fallback positions) into a structured knowledge base. A retrieval-augmented generation pipeline was built so the copilot could pull the relevant playbook section and precedent clauses for each contract, then generate flagged issues and suggested redline language grounded in that retrieved context rather than the model's general knowledge alone.

The copilot integrates directly into Lexicore's existing document review software, surfacing flags and suggested redlines inline as track-changes style comments that an associate accepts, edits, or rejects before anything moves forward. Every suggestion includes a citation back to the specific playbook rule or precedent clause it was grounded in, so associates can quickly verify the reasoning.

The build took nine weeks from playbook formalization to a working pilot, run first with a five-associate group on vendor agreements before expanding firm-wide to all contract types over the following two months.

Timeline

Howtheengagementran

01

Discovery

Six weeks formalizing partner playbook knowledge into a structured, retrievable knowledge base.

02

Prototype

Built the RAG pipeline connecting playbook retrieval to clause flagging and redline suggestion generation.

03

Pilot

Five-associate pilot on vendor agreements, refining flag accuracy and redline quality weekly.

04

Rollout

Expanded to all 35 associates and all commercial contract types over two months, with partners spot-checking output.

“Every associate now reviews contracts with the same playbook knowledge our most senior partners carry around in their heads. It hasn't replaced judgment, it's made good judgment available faster.”
